President Biden Signs the PACT Act and Delivers on His Promise to America’s Veterans
The law, which Biden described as long overdue, caps a
years-long battle to ensure treatment for chronic illnesses that veterans have blamed on burn pits, which were used to dispose of chemicals, tires, plastics, medical equipment and human waste on military bases. Estimates of affected troops run to 3.5 million.
The PACT Act is a critical step forward to fulfill our nation’s sacred obligation to care for veterans. For veterans facing toxic exposure and surviving families and friends, the PACT Act is long overdue.

Calling all Military Veteran Business Owners looking to grow your business.
2022 VETRN MBA Online program for the Fall of 2022 is expected to include 20 or more veteran small business owners and family members from across the country. This class starts our 8th year of the VETRN MBA training program, teaching veteran participants how
to successfully grow their veteran owned small business. To date, 90 veteran small business owners and family members have graduated from the VETRN program, with many successes and successful pivot stories to date.

Meet Jilan Hall-Johnson, owner of the Sassy Biscuit Company in Dover, military wife, and mother of three children.
The Sassy Biscuit Co., a casual bruncherie with the motto, “Bringing Big City Living to Small Town Plates” is a place where guests are treated like family with food made from scratch.
“The Sassy Biscuit is me,” says Jilan. “I really want people to feel like they’re eating at my home, because those were some of my fondest memories, eating around the kitchen table at my house or my grandparents’ house. So that aspect was very important to
incorporate into who we were as a business.”

SBDC business advisor Warren Daniel has been a support of Jilan from the very beginning. “The SBDC has been our cheerleader and our biggest support,” comments Jilan. She adds “opening a business is not easy, it takes a village. The SBDC is a big
part of that village. There are so many obstacles to overcome and so much you don’t know, the resources provided by the SBDC are essential to help you navigate them.”
