National Women’s Business Council: Advancing Women Entrepreneurs and Growing America’s Economy

The NWBC is a non-partisan federal advisory committee that acts as an independent source of advice and policy recommendations to key stakeholders, including the President, the U.S. Congress (specifically the Committees on Small Business of the Senate and House of Representatives), and the Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (through the Assistant Administrator of the Office of Women’s Business Ownership). The council focuses on issues of critical importance to women in the business world.

NWBC Policy Priorities

  • Access to Capital & Opportunity: The NWBC acknowledges that access to capital remains a significant barrier for female founders and women-owned businesses. The council is dedicated to proposing practical solutions that address credit access, federal procurement, and venture capital funding for women entrepreneurs.
  • Women in STEM: Encouraging women to establish and grow businesses in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields is a key focus for the NWBC. These industries have proven high-growth potential, and the council actively supports efforts to foster entrepreneurship in these underrepresented sectors through education and capital initiatives.
  • Inclusive Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: The NWBC is committed to understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs from underserved communities, including those in rural and tribal areas. The council seeks out untapped opportunities for growth and empowerment within these communities.
