Terrence Thames is CEO of Advanced Media Production Firm, LLC (dba Cocoa Creative Agency). He is a man of faith, a husband, a father, and an entrepreneur. Terrence has a passion for seeing others succeed in business and in life – especially people of color. Having grown up on the South Side of Chicago, Terrence was raised by his college-aged cousin in Iowa City at the age of nine where he was exposed to a better life and more opportunities. At that time, Terrence became heavily involved in church, video production, journalism, and music.

Working professionally since the age of 17, Terrence launched the business in 2011. Cocoa Creative is a new type of creative agency built on creative storytelling. It provides brands creative solutions through graphic design, video production and photography. Its clients include ESPN, NBC Sports, the NBA, Principal, Wells Fargo, the NCAA, McDonald’s, Drake University, the NCAA, and HyVee, among many others.

Like many small businesses, Cocoa Creative was impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic. Terrence used two SBA PPP loans, an SBA COVID 19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), and counseling assistance from Iowa’s SBDC to help his business through the economic crisis.

Terrence is currently focused on family, faith, and wealth-building among minorities and their communities. As one of the organizers of the West Des Moines Chamber’s Black and Brown Business Summit, he is opening doors for entrepreneurs of color to follow in his footsteps.
