Message from the District Director

J. Malcolm Richards, North Florida District Office

DD Richards

This past month has been very eventful for our office, we were able to offer, through a collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), presentations in English and Spanish titled “Tax Advantages for Business Owners: Protecting Your Bottom Line” outlining tax credits available to small business owners.  These sessions will be repeated in September. Check our district calendar for updates

As we enter September, National Preparedness Month and the fourth and historically most active month of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, I want to remind our small business community it’s never too late to start preparing. Please take some time to make a plan for hurricanes. Here are two invaluable websites for disaster preparation and continuity planning: www.Ready.gov and www.DisasterSafety.org.

Finally, Hispanic Heritage Month–which takes place mid-September through mid-October–is an annual celebration of the accomplishments of Hispanics who have positively influenced and enriched American culture, society, and our great nation.  Our office will be hosting a virtual event on Friday, September 16th from 10 am to 12 pm titled “COVID -19, The Impact and Recovery of Hispanic Businesses in Florida”. This event will feature special guest speakers and will delve into the questions of:

  • What is the future of Hispanic owned businesses in Florida?
  • How have Hispanic owned businesses pivoted to survive the Pandemic?
  • What does it all mean for the future and the state of Florida?

You can register for this event below.

We have so much to share with you.  Feel free to email us at NorthFlorida_DO@sba.gov and visit our website: www.sba.gov/northflorida or follow us on Twitter @SBA_NorthFL.
