Library of Congress - HVAC unit - National Treasures

The Library of Congress (Library) requires a contractor to replace the independent HVAC unit that conditions the Secured Storage Facility (SSF) that holds the institution’s priceless National Treasures. The existing unit was first built 30 years ago and received an overhaul in 2006. In the past two years, loss of pressure has caused equipment malfunction. When investigated, the drop in pressure was attributed to small leaks in the refrigeration system, which in turn has required the periodic addition of refrigerant to ensure maintenance of the prescribed collection environment.
